LSI Logic Extends PCI Express(TM) Product Family with Introduction of Three New Host Bus Adapters
New Fibre Channel PCI Express HBA Roadmap, Timed to Intel PCI Express Technology Enabled Platforms
ORLANDO, Fla., Oct 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Logic Corporation will expand its Fibre Channel family of host bus adapters (HBAs) with the introduction of a fully supported PCI Express(TM) 1.0a specification. The 2Gb/s HBA ( http://lsilogic.com/pciexpress ) will be available early next year, timed with the rollout of Intel's PCI Express technology enabled processor platforms. LSI Logic also plans a line of PCI Express Ultra320 SCSI HBA solutions and recently announced the launch of the industry's first dual-channel Ultra320 SCSI PCI Express RAID solution.
Using the Intel(R) 41210 Serial to Parallel PCI Bridge, a PCI Express to PCI/PCI-X 1.0 bridge, LSI Logic's new high-performance HBAs will be available in single-, dual-, and quad-channel versions, supporting auto-negotiation for 2Gb/s and 1Gb/s rates. Operating system support includes Microsoft Windows, Novell, Linux, and Solaris. The HBA will also be supported by an LSI Logic management software utility, a comprehensive package of program utilities designed for today's Storage Area Network (SAN) environments.
"LSI Logic is committed to being a time-to-market leader, which is why we are pleased to be announcing our new PCI Express HBA product family," said Charlie Kraus, director of HBA marketing for the LSI Logic Storage Standard Products Division. "As users begin to anticipate the performance benefits of PCI Express, they can be assured that high quality HBAs from LSI Logic will be available to them as Intel begins to ship its PCI Express solutions next year."
The high-speed serial I/O architecture of PCI Express addresses the growing performance, scalability, feature extensibility and mission critical reliability demands that are inherent in the server market. The technology gives system designers the flexibility to develop new, more modular solutions that will scale to support the higher bandwidths demanded by the world's leading server builders.
"As we move closer to the reality of delivering PCI Express technology that will meet the demanding system interconnect requirements of the server market segment, LSI Logic is passing along the benefits of PCI Express with the introduction of its new HBA," said Mike Wall, general manager of Intel's Storage Components Division. "Such efforts will help ensure a successful launch of PCI Express."
The Intel 41210 Serial-to-Parallel PCI Bridge is designed to facilitate the migration to PCI Express architecture on existing adapters and add-in cards. The Intel bridge is validated with forthcoming Intel PCI Express technology based platforms and will enable vendors to have products ready for the 2004 platform launch.
